a
true story Norazza Card Slot Cleaner Really Works A couple years ago I began having trouble with my wonderful digital camera. One day, after transferring images to my computer using a card reader, I carefully slid the memory card back into the camera card slot, closed the protective door and turned my camera on. The LCD window displayed a warning:
Card error messages mean you can't take pictures! It's like being out of film. This was the first problem I'd ever had with my digital camera! The instruction manual advised "Wipe the contact area on the SmartMedia card with a soft dry cloth. It may be necessary to format the SmartMedia. If the error message is still displayed, replace the SmartMedia." Wiping the memory card
with a soft microfiber cloth (another wonderful
invention) didn't work. Next I re- formatted the card.
(Always use your camera to format a card.) This didn't
work either. Then I tried my other Smart Media cards. All
four cards produced the same error message. The problem
was my camera! |

| I panicked! With my
first-ever cross country train trip planned in three
weeks, I needed my digital camera fixed pronto. After calling the manufacturer's toll free number, I learned the awful truth. With the Fujifilm factory repair station located in New Jersey and me living in Seattle there was no way they could promise to fix my camera in two weeks. Transit time alone would eat up a week. And they wouldn't quote an estimate over the phone. "Minor repairs start at $150." the lady said. She suggested one possible solution. "Why not take your camera to our factory authorized repair company in downtown Seattle?" A service technician at the local Fujifilm authorized repair shop briefly inspected my digital camera. He agreed the internal card reader needed servicing. Unfortunately they were backlogged with repairs but promised they'd try to get it working by my deadline. The cost? "$160 to fix a card reader problem" the lady at the counter said straight-faced. She wasn't joking. Digital camera repair is very expensive and my warranty had expired. I sighed and signed the estimate. Two weeks later I phoned the busy repair shop. No, they hadn't started work on my camera, no, they didn't know when it would be done; the counter lady didn't even remember me. Time was running out! A phone call to a camera-savvy friend saved the day. My problem is solved! |
